چکیده

This work unit is part of a coupled 6.2-6.4 development effort to implement rapid transition of aerosol prediction and EO tactical decision aid capability to the Fleet and is carried out by NRL-Montery and SPAWAR-SSC. The coupled program will improve the components of the Target Acquisition Weather Software (TAWS) and couple operational EO tactical decision aids (TDA's) to numerical weather prediction and aerosol models. Specific elements of this approach (and the responsible person) include: A: Develop and validate operational, diagnostic, and prognostic versions of the Navy Aerosol Analysis and Prediction System (NAAPS) for analysis of airborne dust loads (Westphal/NRL). B: Modify existing radiative transfer codes to ingest NAAPS forecasts. Produce practical products that depict the state of the atmosphere in terms of visibility and range (Reid/SSC; Tsay/GSFC; Westphal/NRL). C: Improve the current marine target radiance models by developing new surface wake models and adding improved ship target models that include wake production (Doss-Hammel/SSC). D: Develop and improve operation of TAWS in maritime scenarios by utilizing numerical weather analyses and forecasts and surface and satellite observations (Goroch/NRL).

Investigating the relationship between ground-level particulate matter and aerosol optical depth during dust storm episodes: a case study of Tehran

Background and Objective: During the last few years, air pollution and increasing levels of particulate matters (PMs) have become major public health issues in the megacity of Tehran. The high cost of constructing and maintaining air pollution monitoring stations has made it difficult to achieve adequate spatial-temporal coverage of PM data over various regions. In this regard, the use of remot...

Development of an Operational Multi-sensor and Multi-channel Aerosol Assimilation Package Using NAAPS and NAVDAS

Accurate prediction of regional and global scale aerosol phenomena is crtical to military operations, especially over regions of interests such as Middle East. For this reason, the US Navy developed the first operational global aerosol model in the world. Yet the forecast accuracy is limited by lack of observations over ocean and other data-poor areas. The long-term goal of this study is to imp...

Improvement of Aerosol Retrieval through Cloud Identification

The stable aerosol retrieval algorithm needs a prior assumption of lidar ratio (the extinction-to-backscatter ratio), and the known aerosol type that is the prerequisite of the assumption, so how to identify the clouds from lidar profile is fundamental to acquire atmospheric optical parameter. CALIPSO is a space-borne lidar and it can observe the aerosol characteristic, but can not penetrate th...

CWRF Ready for Climate Service

The CWRF has been developed as the Climate extension of the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF, Skamarock et al. 2008) by incorporating numerous improvements in representation of physical processes and integration of external (top, surface, lateral) forcings that are crucial to climate scales, including interactions between land–atmosphere–ocean, convection–microphysics and cloud–aeros...

Prediction of the adsorption capability onto activated carbon of liquid aliphatic alcohols using molecular fragments method

Quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) for estimating the adsorption of aliphatic alcohols onto activated carbon were developed using substructural molecular fragments (SMF) method. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon (gr/100grC) for 150 aliphatic alcohols onto activated carbon (AC) is studied under equilibrium conditions. Forward and backwards stepwise regression variable ...
